Government

The United States Senate passed a bill February 12, 1859, making Oregon the 33rd state, with President Buchannan signing the bill into law two days later.

In 1874, a board of trustees was established to serve one-year terms.

Dallas was incorporated in 1891, received a charter from the state legislature, and adopted a council form of government.

The present-day Home Rule Charter in which the elected Mayor and a nine-member City Council appoint a City Manager responsible for supervising and operating all city departments was approved in 1965.
